  • Prabal Gurung Fall 2022 Ready-to-Wear Collection

“I always say my woman is unapologetically feminine and glam, but this has a little more pragmatism to it,” said Prabal Gurung about this collection. Prabal Gurung presented a beautiful modern collection on Wednesday night that served as an ode to the two cities he calls home: New York City and Kathmandu, Nepal. The collection married an edgy, bold and dramatic woman with her professional and classic counterpart. The assortment ranged from masculine pantsuits with modern flair to daring dresses with creative cut-outs and embellishment. He uses bright, bold colors mixed with many dark grey, and black looks. Thigh high boots stand out as a trend across many of the looks presented and point to tall boots making a big statement this fall.

  • Dion Lee's RTW Fall 2022 is an Ode to Architecture

Noted for creating architectural silhouettes and exploring the plentiful possibilities of structure and form in his designs, Dion Lee's ready-to-wear Fall 2022 collection embraces the flattering elements of geometrical design. This collection is a love note to symmetry and lines, which accentuate lithe and curvy bodies alike. Graceful Gloves Gloves make a frequent appearance in Lee's fall 2022 collection. Pictured on the left, long black leather gloves are attached to a tan collared shirt, creating a smooth, seamless transition between the torso and the arms. Lee contrasts this sleek look with a very different use of gloves, pictured on the right. The shorter tan gloves use both fur and leather in a slightly chunkier look that, combined with this flattering strapless top, accentuate the graceful curvatures of the model's arms and collar bones. Voluptuous Curves A geometrical approach also involves highlighting curves that provide a much needed contrast from straight, rigid lines. Lee shows an incredible sensitivity in his understanding of the human body's natural curvatures. His garments beautifully hug well-rounded hips, further accentuating tapered waists and long legs. "...the anatomy of the body underneath the clothes becomes a really important dialogue. So much of what we're doing is sculpting around the physical form." - Dion Lee Enticing Textures Texture also plays an important role in Lee's architectural approach. The fall collection features a variety of fabrics, including lace, denim, leather, and both chunky and slender knits.

  • Reflections on Family: Brandon Maxwell's RTW Fall 2022

Full of beautiful dresses, classy pantsuits, and flattering jackets, Brandon Maxwell's ready-to-wear Fall 2022 collection is a wonderful tribute to his grandmother, Louise, who now suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Reflecting on his grandmother's condition and his relationship with her, Maxwell took the opportunity to focus on "confrontation, acceptance, reverence and legacy" when curating his fall collection. The NYFW event opened with a video about his childhood, paying homage to his grandmother for inspiring his love of fashion. His reverent reflection was translated into a mostly monochromatic palette and long, flowing garments that are romantic and sophisticated in nature. These long dresses were contrasted with shorter cut sweater dresses and jeans paired with blouses for a more casual look. Maxwell's line pairs gorgeous suede boots and handbags in brown and burgundy for a pop of color. The collection also features jumpsuits, elegant coats, and leather dresses and pants.

  • Back to the 90's: Coach's RTW Fall 2022

Coach's ready-to-wear Fall 2022 collection is perfect for those who are nostalgic for the 90's. Coach's gift to us? Allowing us to reminisce about days spent in skate parks and the sweet and casual outfits that we loved, featuring Baby Doll dresses and oversized T-shirts. How could we forget that the 90's was the height of grunge? Coach captures this essence with loose fitted, oversized shirts and pants. The collection also explores a slightly fetishistic element of grunge with leather from head to toe, with no undergarments to disrupt the seamless flow of leather. If we weren't going for the comfortable or edgy look, we were certainly thinking about dressing to impress. The sweetest, most romantic 90's look was most definitely the Baby Doll dress, reimagined by Coach and paired with Mary Janes in their collection. The best part of the 2022 collection is, by far, a versatile array of outerwear. Coach captures refined, classy styles with long leather jackets and fur coats, but also includes plaid and graffiti patterned jackets.

  • Kim Shui's RTW Fall 2022 Redefines Sexy

Kim Shui's ready-to-wear Fall 2022 is a meditation on the definition of sexy. In contrast to her unapologetically sexy 2021 collection, the 2022 collection is more subtle and sensual, marrying sexy elements such as see-through tops and jagged hems with classy styles, like tweed skirts and flare pants. Shui focused on "a more flirtatious type of sexy," for this collection, stating that "sexy can be interpreted in many different ways..." Indeed, the use of throwback hats, tweed pants and skirts, and gloves reimagines traditionally conservative styles in a sexy, fresh way. The line's vibrant color palette - using lilac, yellow, bright pinks and blues - also gives a feeling of youthful sexiness. "I feel that sexy can be interpreted in many different ways — as long as you feel sexy, that’s what’s important." - Kim Shui Another important element of Shui's line is subtlety. Lace garments, garter belts, and fetishistic elements like fur trims and vegan leather make this collection, in Shui's words, "subversively sensual." Photos: Michelle Corvino
