  • The Fierce Future of Fashion - Kim Shui's Fall 2023 Collection

The future is female, and the future of fashion has no boundaries, no rules, and no room for anyone who disagrees. Kim Shui's Fall 2023 Ready to Wear show is right in line with that vision - ultra feminine, ultra sexy, and the definition of confident. The looks in this show will inspire any cool girl that loves Y2K fashion, and inspire all of us in how to recreate classic looks while breathing fresh and trendy new life into them. Early 2000's fashion was present, but this collection elevates the vision to new heights. Fierce models powered down the runway in big dark shades, and middle parts, giving just as much attitude as each outfit. Classic Y2K mini dresses were reworked with fun prints and innovative lines to push the boundaries of the closet staple. This line is exactly what today's young fashion lovers want - no bras, bare legs and bold mini skirts, so mini one model wore one as a belt. Bright and fun patterns were used tastefully and uniquely paired together. The presence of snake skin felt like a nod to shedding skin, showing skin, and the importance of both for women today. Women are shedding societies rules for what we're expected to be, and wear. Confidence in one's outfit is a rebellion alone in today's world. Being sexy and embracing your femininity is a rebellion. This collection confidently rebels and looks incredible doing it. Comfort is key - silk and lace were also prevalent in this collection and more nods to classic feminine silhouettes from the early 2000s. High fashion silk babydoll dresses and lace slips reinvented to be worn outside of the bedroom. While some looks included a classic strappy heel, others had comfy fuzzy rave boots. The pairing of a sexy skimpy going out look with a furry rave boot will absolutely be a big trend following this collection. Proving to be ultra provocative and comfortable while looking ultra cool. Bedazzled cursive 'K's were sprinkled about - a hint at the fabulous Kim herself. Photos courtesy of vogue.com

  • Meet the Plastics - PH5 and the Magic of Sustainability

Bold colored tights, neon face netting, innovative layering and recycled, reinvented plastic - PH5 is where creativity and sustainability meet. Designer Wei Lin transformed her knitwear brand into a sustainable high fashion dream, working with fellow designer Zoe Champion to reinvent plastic for their Fall Ready to Wear line that debuted at NYFW Saturday morning. PH5 cares about the future of fashion, and our planet, using recycled materials and a futuristic approach to design to create a collection that pushes boundaries with a purpose. The show was an ode to deep sea life, with nods like a reworked puffer life vest, plastic slip dresses peeking out of knit gowns, and their signature wavy trimming in bold pinks and icy blues, an undeniable nod to the ocean. Lin's signature knitwear was present in the collection, reinventing how we assume knits are used. Knit dresses and bikini bottoms were paired with puffer coats and bright shiny leggings and winter gloves. Pieces were strategically layered while remaining fun and unpredictable, right in line with how outfits are being layered today's fashion. There's power in the ability to blend innovation and purpose. Plastic was used, both creatively and purposefully. Plastic veils, slips, and belts were beautifully worn, while making it impossible to miss the message behind this collection. The cherry on top - a plastic backdrop that models played with, using fluid lines that mimicked the great big blue. The fun didn't stop at the outfits - PH5's use of accessories elevated every look as well as the general message of the brand. The models wore classic and comfortable sneakers, as well as bright face nets that mimic those that catch fish. Recycled materials were used to weave handbags together, and models wore winter gloves with their bright spring leggings - the juxtaposition was a subtle nod to climate change and the general disarray of our world. But in the midst of the disarray, fashion, and our world, remain beautiful, colorful and fluid. A fashionable alarm to all of us to pay attention to our planet, and the role our plastic consumption adds to the problem. A beautiful and fun way to send a meaningful message to everyone - and especially this new generation of fashion lovers. Photos courtesy of vogue.com

  • 8 Ways Carolina Herrera Defines Fall Femininity During NYFW ‘23

By: BriannaRose Hewitt The Carolina Herrera brand held its fashion show in a ballroom with extravagant chandeliers, wall paper, and detailed molding. It could not have been a more perfect place for their newest line that was regal, elegant, and everything in between with its varying silhouettes, fabrics, and details. Let’s break it down. All images credited to Giovanni Giannoni/WWD. The show started with exclusively black and white looks. Models mostly wore dresses of varying lengths and styles before some floral patterns and gemstones started to get teased between these classic colors. Slowly, but surely more bold colors were introduced, and by the end of the 51 look show, there were ensembles bringing in a multitude of colors including yellow, bright pink, and green. Across the colors, there was one defining characteristic: femininity, and there were 8 different ways that the designer executed this theme. 1. Floral and Elegant Patterns Multiple dresses and ensembles were made from floral patterns. The base was black or white, the flowers were vivid gem tones, creating a nice contrast and the perfect balance to still keep the looks suitable for fall. Carolina Herrera also used a variety of other patterns using a similar color palette, giving a variety of printed looks to choose from. All images credited to Giovanni Giannoni/WWD 2. Ball Gown Silhouettes There were a variety of ball gowns that graced the runway. Some gowns had an A-line shape, but most were the traditional senched waste and iconic poofy skirt. There were even some cocktail length dresses following this silhouette, creating a fun, classy, and feminine look. All images credited to Giovanni Giannoni/WWD 3. Tightly Tailored Silhouettes On the opposite end of the spectrum, there were also a variety of styles that hugged models perfectly. The precise tailoring was very flattering, making it a classic look. This style also came in a variety of colors, showing the integrity of the design. All images credited to Giovanni Giannoni/WWD 4. Large Sleeves and Defined Necklines Carolina Herrera had fun with sleeves this season. Many ensembles were topped off with a puffed or draped sleeve, creating a statement that drew attention, but didn’t overpower the whole outfit. Other looks had unique necklines that emphasized the collarbone and neck, bringing in an elegance. All images credited to Giovanni Giannoni/WWD 5. The Incorporation Of Bows Bows are a staple of femininity and girlhood, and the brand decided to use some giant ones. A couple looks had bows tied around their waist and draped along the skirt. These looks typically had bright colors, and were a little different from the rest of the line because they brought in a fun, youthful feeling, but they still went along with the rest of the pieces. All images credited to Giovanni Giannoni/WWD 6. Capes and Ponchos It would not be a fall line without some outer layers, and capes and ponchos dominated Carolina Herrera. Some capes and ponchos were incorporated into the silhouette and design of the dress, while others were simple overlays. No matter the style, they were beautifully made without covering the rest of the designs. All images credited to Giovanni Giannoni/WWD 7. Gemstone and Floral Appliques Some designs brought in a 3D element through their gemstone and floral appliques. They sparkled under the chandeliers, creating a wow factor. There were just enough added to the clothes that they caught your eye, but didn’t distract you from the tailoring of the rest of the ensemble. All images credited to Giovanni Giannoni/WWD 8. Redefined Femininity While Carolina Herrera used classic silhouettes and styles for the latest line, the brand also brought in some ideas of their own. A couple pieces were made almost exclusively from structured tulle, but despite the fullness, there was still a shape and a unique take on using traditional feminine fabrics for new ideas. Puffer jackets blew up last season, and the brand took that into account with a unique piece that walked the runway. A gown with a matching puffer jacket! The jacket was on the slimmer side, so it didn’t cover the top, but there was no mistaking what it was. Whoever decides to wear this piece will definitely not be cold. All images credited to Giovanni Giannoni/WWD Carolina Herrera’s line did not disappoint. From the setting to the designs, it was pure elegance and femininity. It was everything you would want the brand to be.

  • Sequined Shangri-la - Brazilian Designer PatBO Stuns with Sparkles

The promotional video for PatBO's NYFW Fall 2023 show at the Atrium at Surrogate's Court in Manhatten fantastically teased what fashion lovers were to expect. A montage captured close-ups of artists' hands expertly twirling sequins and tacking lace, all of which emphasized how much Founder and Creative Director Patricia Bonaldi loves sewing and the patient artistry behind making one-of-a-kind garments. Her love is easy to understand. As a child, in Uberlandia, Brazil, money was tight and so, to economize, her mother taught her to sew. From there - after a brief detour into studying law - she launched her eponymous label of couture evening wear in São Paolo, Brazil. Before Saturday's show even began, country mega-watt star Kelsea Ballerini was a one-woman red hot prologue, flaunting her PatBO's sequined wide-leg pants and blazer on the streets of New York City. The singer's social media posts show her strutting in queen-of-hearts-crimson, a fashionista with a serious designer crush. The bejeweled show was perfectly at home amid the beaux-art architecture and skylight of a building that dates to 1907. Once the show began, it was hard not to think about Selena Quintanilla's famous sequined bras upon seeing the hand-beaded bralette that was paired with sequined cargo pants. The look was altered when the jeweled bralette was matched with a mini-dress, which, thanks to the delicate artistry, took fifteen days to make. There was an unabashed showgirl embrace to the amethyst sequined mock top and mermaid skirt with a long slit up the front. The bright purple also appeared in a sequined mini dress with a sweetheart neckline sculpted from purple illusion tulle so that it looked like the beads dewed the skin. Sans sequins, the violet pointed bralette was made from silky crepe fabric. Illusion tulle fabric was also used on the hand-beaded mock neck top that was paired with sequined cargo pants. Channeling an Ibiza vibe, the daydreamer beaded tulle bodysuit and hand-embroidered bralette paired with the matching jacket induced February daydreams about islands and beaches. Aside from tulle, peacock-blue velvet added to the sumptuousness of the runway. Whether it was in the form of a bandeau top or a stardust maxi dress made from glitter knit fabric and lace, the dazzle was there, even when subtle. Toned-gold crystal bedazzled bright butterscotch velvet blazers and pants. Regardless if the costumes were black lace cinched at the waist, white tulle creating a snowy effect or sherbert-colored ombre crystal, everything on the PatBO runway was handmade, a luxury that was evident in every stitch and sparkle. In addition to Ballerini, other celebs in attendance were Candace Bushnell, Elizabeth Gillies, Mary Lawless Lee and Serena Goh. ~ By Erin Moonyeen Haley All images courtesy of PatBO

The show opened with a powerful statement in the form of a bright red, floor-length jumpsuit. Models strutted down the runway in the bold yet comfortable piece, making a statement that the Alice + Olivia woman is both stylish and powerful. • Avant Garde Art: Puppets & Puppets Unapologetically Serves Red Roses and Eggs At NYFW ‘23

By: BriannaRose Hewitt Puppets & Puppets, a brand most well known for its bags defined with 3 dimensional cookies has kept up its avant garde brand for its latest NYFW runway show. The brand prides itself in combining fashion and fine art, and created looks that deserved their own modern art museum exhibit. Leading up to the fashion show, the brand teased its followers with behind the scenes footage that showcased not only their iconic cookie purse, but also shoes that had eggs and roses on the toe box. These elements ended up being hints for the show, as many of the pieces showcased three dimensional roses and cracked eggs on the breast. While this is a fall collection, the eggs and roses could not be more timely with Valentine’s Day coming up and the price of eggs currently experiencing major inflation. They definitely made a statement that can make consumers reflect, just as they would in an art museum. All images credited to WWD/Rodin Banica Other designers have incorporated the color red into their fall lines, and Puppets & Puppets followed this trend, and it took it to the next level. Red dominated. In addition to the red roses, there was red snake skin, red sequins, red velvet, red fur, and countless red accents. We think red could be the new color for the fall. All images credited to WWD/Rodin Banica The brand also favored the color black, and incorporated the color orange through animal print and patterned fabric. It complimented the red nicely, creating an overall cohesive look. All images credited to WWD/Rodin Banica Puppets & Puppets say they value art, and that was not lost this season, especially with the use of paintings and pictures printed onto fabrics. Models looked like they tore a piece off the wall from the museum and wrapped it around themselves. From tightly tailored to oversized, these looks only appeared a couple times on the runway, but could not be forgotten. All images credited to WWD/Rodin Banica Other major themes included beaded accessories, especially around the face, contributing to the art wow factor. Power suits and tailored jackets also appeared a couple times, notably different from the rest of the line because of their professional inspiration, but still overall following the theme. All images credited to WWD/Rodin Banica When you think of Puppets & Puppets, you think abstract, avant garde, and unapologetic, and that is definitely what appeared on the 2023 NYFW stage.

  • Eckhaus Latta's Journey Into Color - NYFW 2023

By: Caitlin Thompson This New York Fashion Week the American Label Eckhaus Latta took a different approach to this Fall 2023 collection. In contrast to their previous shows full of color, this collection feels almost unsettling. From the start of the show, there was a dark mood over the entire space. When Latta spoke with Vogue about the collection she said “There’s a kind of moodiness, not in a pessimistic way, but maybe on edge, an uneasy feeling that we are curious to play with.” Photos courtesy of Vogue The show takes place in a pitch-black room with spotlights illuminating the models. The collection starts with looks mostly devoid of any color. This is the beginning of this collection's journey to saturation. Photos courtesy of Vogue As the show progressed color slowly started to make its statement. When speaking with Vogue about the collection Eckhuas said“We’re thinking of things that come together and come apart, and letting things be mutable as garments”. Photos courtesy of Vogue Eckhuas Latta used a variety of textures in this collection. They adopted an open-knit cotton with unfinished and inside-out seams. Toward the end of the show, color infiltrates the once detraction collection. Photos courtesy of Vogue They saved some of their best looks for the end. Some garments were made from coated vinyl with gathering at various points on the body to give a marbled look. At the end of every show, Eckhaus includes a poem. This season's poem was “Be Fluidly Brutal and Find God.” This collection has progressed from a brutal, dark theme to one of discovery of balance.

  • Rihanna Gives Fiery Performance for 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show

The 9 time Grammy winner, Fenty mogul and fashion disruptor ;after virtually abandoning her music career for six years, made her highly anticipated return to the stage Sunday in the grandest way possible with a fiery performance at 2023 Super Bowl halftime show. NO COSTUME CHANGES. No guests joining her onstage. No curveball surprises in her set list. Nothing except Rihanna being a boss, perched on a glass platform that levitated above the field, kicked off her set reigning supreme at her Super Bowl halftime show. She crushed every possible prediction about how she would handle her first public performance in more than five years. Just the way she began with “Bitch Better Have My Money” was a statement in itself. She’s baaaack. Rihanna’s bold red Super Bowl look paid homage to a legendary fashion industry figure, the late American Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley. The star appeared wearing a red Loewe jumpsuit and bustier by Loewe, and a cropped red puffa by Alaïa. Later in the show, though, she swapped the shorter coat for a dramatic floor length puffa, also in crimson. The look was a subtle tribute to Talley, who was often photographed wearing a bold red sleeping bag coat by the designer Norma Kamali. She finished off the look with MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross Sneakers, plus a bold red lip and lots of ear bling. The scarlet sneakers from Maison Margiela X Salomon sneakers became a new trend setter in social media soon after the show In terms of the playlist , it was a delight for Rihanna's fans to watch her perform her 17 years of work into 13 minutes. As summed in her own words ; Rihanna said: “It’s going to be a celebration of my catalog in the best way that we could have put it together.”...AND IT SURELY WAS ! After “Bitch Better Have My Money,” she went into “Where Have You Been,” “Only Girl in the World,” “We Found Love,” “Rude Boy,” “Work,” “Wild Thoughts,” and “Pour It Up.” Surprisingly, she did two consecutive Kanye songs, “All of the Lights” and “Run This Town,” which seemed mighty strange. But she didn’t go for the hat trick by adding “4-5 Seconds,” which would’ve given a chance for a Paul McCartney cameo. She cued up the inevitable “Umbrella,” and ended with the perfect finale “Diamonds,” as the sky lit up with fireworks. Overall, the performance marked Rihanna's comeback with her icon status and also an anticipated an viral bump reveal. If the buzz is true, the fans would be elated and Rihanna would create history as the first pregnant woman to headline a Super Bowl Halftime Show. Update: Rihanna's team confirms she's pregnant with her second child alongside her rapper boyfriend ASAP Rocky.

Last year the event was pre recorded due to the pandemic which did not take away the deliver from the performances . Being in the room took me to a place I didn’t think I could get to. As a women of faith who grew up in a Christian household but never really witnessing the power of the Holy Ghost until this night. Kierra Sheard performance was heartfelt. I cried, I danced but most of all I received the message that she delivered.
