- Why Tea Needs to be Part of your Routine
What needs to be part of your routine? One word: tea. What does it mean to you? Does it remind you of curling up on a comfy chair with a good book or your favorite Netflix show? Does it make you reminisce about your loved ones bringing you tea with honey when you're feeling sick? Is it a part of your cultural identity or a daily routine? Whatever your relationship is with tea, it's time to consider making tea a more regular part of your routine. Tea has a myriad of physical and mental health benefits: it helps soothe muscle spasms and menstrual pains; it keeps hair and skin healthy, and can be applied directly to the skin to soothe irritations and acne; it fights free radicals that cause cancer and helps lower cholesterol; and it can help with relaxation and improving your mood. Keep reading to learn more about the benefits of different teas. Green Tea Green tea can be enjoyed in a variety of ways: as fully matured green tea, as matcha (a powder made from ground up baby green tea leaves), or as an extract found in skin products. Both green tea and matcha contain antioxidants, vitamins, and amino acids that fight skin cancer and assist in detoxing. Green tea is also anti-inflammatory, which makes it a great ingredient in skin care products that reduce redness and swelling. Herbal Teas There are plenty of herbal teas with wonderful benefits, but here are a few worth mentioning. Lavender tea smells as soothing as it tastes. Lavender has been used to treat depression and anxiety and it also helps to promote sleep. On its own, lavender tea isn't caffeinated, but it can easily be mixed with black or green tea if you want some caffeination. Peppermint tea is another pleasant smelling and soothing tea. It contains menthol, which can help soothe an upset stomach and aid in constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. It also helps alleviate tension from headaches. Hibiscus tea, made from the hibiscus flower, has a floral yet earthy taste. It helps lower blood pressure and fat levels, improves liver health, and also assists in staving off food cravings. Black Tea Black tea is probably what comes to mind for many of us when we think about tea. Black tea has a darker color and richer flavor, and higher caffeine levels than green or herbal teas. Some studies show that black tea may protect the lungs from damage caused by exposure to cigarette smoke. It may also mitigate the risk of stroke. Black tea can be a great alternative for people who don't handle coffee well, as tea is more soothing and doesn't cause jitters the way that coffee can.
- Fashion and International Women's Day
As women, we have often found ourselves in compromising situations that have made us feel inferior. Society has created a deafening narrative that has told women we are "too much" so we should learn to "tone it down." In the world of fashion, this narrative has echoed throughout history. But here is the catch, instead of silencing us, it has given women from all walks of life the bravery to be themselves entirely. How you choose to show up in the world is a gift. This is what International Women's Day looks like, it goes beyond the mere bounds of empowerment. It's how women alike learn to love and support one another as well as allow themselves to unravel the uniqueness of who they are. Beauty and Fashion have always been a vehicle of personal expression for women. When we think of how it impacts society we often forget about the minds who assembled the pieces and designed them. In honor of International Women's Day, let's take a look at a few of the most influential female designers that have trail blazed and revolutionized the beauty and fashion scene. Madeleine Chéruit She was born in June 1866 and died in 1955. While she may not be a common household name like Coco Chanel or Valentina, Madeleine Chéruit pioneered and paved the way for female fashion designers, becoming one of the first women to own and run a major French fashion house, at the turn of the century. Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel Coco Chanel is arguably the most respected, coveted, and iconic fashion designer of all time. She turned her innovative ideas and rebellious concepts into a successful business that transformed herself into the iconic brand we all know and love today. She designed for both men and women. As well as introduce pants suits, wide-leg paints, sailor shirts, and her famous little black dresses; all this was done for women in a time when they were only expected to dress in corsets and frills. She was both rebellious and brave. She opened new doors for women in society worldwide. Vera Wang After working as the former editor of Vogue for 17 years and Ralph Lauren's accessories designer, Wang opened up a bridal boutique in New York City at the age of 40 that revolutionized the bridal scene. Now at 72 years old, she is best known for creating the world's most recognizable high-end wedding gowns. Her bridal collections are positioned at the top of the luxury market. Vera Wang has changed the world of fashion in the category of wedding dresses forever. Miuccia Prada Miuccia Prada is an Italian billionaire, businesswoman, and the head fashion designer of Prada. Originally named Maria Bianchi, the iconic designer studied political science and graduated with her Ph.D. Her background as a feminist fighter reaching for equality shines through her fashion. Her collections are a reflection of her outlook on life, as she has always transcended boundaries, redefined limitations, and dared to be different. Robyn "Rihanna" Fenty Robyn Fenty, known to the public as Rihanna, is a current unshakeable force in the world of beauty and fashion. The musician-turned-CEO as of August 2021, is officially a billionaire. In 2017, she launched Fenty Beauty, and just a year later, Savage x Fenty, a sexy, affordable, and inclusive line of lingerie. Today she has launched Fenty, a luxury collection, in partnership with Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, also referred to as LVMH. Rihanna has made history being the first-ever woman, let alone a woman of color to introduce a line with LVMH. The 32-year-old designer is stirring something new within the industry and is already redefining beauty and fashion standards. .
- All About Eyes: 5 Makeup Products to Invest In
Although masking mandates are being lifted across the country, we haven't done away with masks altogether. A significant portion of our faces are obscured by masks, which sadly means that we aren't able to show off our favorite shade of lipstick or bronzed cheeks. However, we can play up our eyes with these five products that are worth investing in. 1. Stamp Eyeliner Stamp eyeliners are incredibly easy and convenient. They're perfect for those of us who don't have a lot of time in our daily routines to create a beautiful winged liner look. This is also a great option for people who struggle to create a sharp line without the help of the spoon or tape hack (check those out -- they're actually very effective!). Simply use the triangular end of the eyeliner at the outer edge of the eye to create the wing. Then, using the eyeliner pen, draw along the lashes to connect the wing into one seamless line. A good quality, reasonably priced option is Kaja's Wink Stamp Wing Eyeliner, which retails at Sephora for $25. 2. White Eyeliner White eyeliner is a lovely and underrated product. White liner on the water line creates the illusion of more light in the eyes, thereby opening up the eyes instead of making the eyes appear smaller (which can easily happen when we create dramatic eye looks). Sephora's Eyeliner Pencil to Go is a soft, coal pencil that is great for both lid and water line application. This product also comes in a variety of colors and retails at $6. 3. Too Faced's Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette A well-pigmented eyeshadow palette is a must-have product. With shades of peach, pinks, corals, bronzes, and purples, Too Faced's Sweet Peach Palette has colors that will compliment every eye color. As an added bonus, the palette smells like juicy peach, so you can enjoy a beautiful scent as you apply your eyeshadow. The palette retails at Sephora for $49. 4. Lancôme's Lash Idôle Lash-Lifting & Volumizing Mascara With 7.5 thousand reviews averaging in a 4.5 rating, Lancôme's lash lifting and volumizing mascara is a tried and true fan favorite. Without parabens and silicones, this is a healthier formula compared to many mascaras on the market. The applicator is a curved wand with 360 micro-size bristles that grab and lengthen every lash from root to tip. The lightweight formula - infused with white tea extract to condition the lashes - leaves the lashes feeling soft without clumping or flaking. Lancôme's mascara retails at Sephora for $27. 5. Velour Lashes: Magnetic Effortless Falsies Velour Lashes' Magnetic Effortless No Trim Natural Lash Collection creates natural, fuller looking lashes. It's a great alternative for mascara. This product uses a magnetic eyeliner (the Lash and Go Eyeliner) instead of glue, which is much cleaner and easier to apply than glue for traditional falsies. Another selling point is that these lashes are vegan and cruelty free and can be applied for 30+ uses. These lashes sell at Sephora for $28.
